Justin made me do it.

“I was, perhaps, the more forcibly impressed with it, as he gave it, because, in the under or mystic current of its meaning, I fancied that I perceived, and for the first time, a full consciousness on the part of Usher, of the tottering of his lofty reason upon her throne.”

Rules:
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence
* Post that sentence along with these instructions
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

I did have to dig it from under twenty mangas, but I played honestly: this was the book nearest me (and mangas are not books, c’mon). “Edgar Allan Poe – Selected Poems & Tales”, illustrated by Mark Summers, introduction by Neil Gaiman. Page 56 is right in the middle of “The Fall of the House of Usher”. And I am extremely glad I never found a place for this behemot in my shelves, because the other nine books near me are dictionaries.
